Bharatnatyam is one of the seven classical dance forms derived from Natyashastra. The temples of South India and devdasi system that was prevalent in ancient India had great influence on its development. Swar Sangam follows the Kalakshetra style of Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale. Besides dance, South Indian literature, sculpture, history, folklore and Guru Parampara dance forms practiced since the ancient times are also taught to understand the origin of Bharatnatyam.
